Looking for a new activity?
Why not join our choir!!
Being a member of our choir is a great social activity and the benefits to your health of singing are well known.

We are now recruiting new members.

If you are an experienced singer, or have never even sung before, why not come along, just listen or join in and have a chat with the members. Our members come from all walks of life and you don’t have to work with the police to sing in the choir.

We practice on a Tuesday each week for two hours and generally give about eight concerts per year to raise funds for local charities. Voice coaching will be provided and we have a measured process to integrate new members into the choir.

You can also check us out on where we have a selection of songs from our repertoire.

Alternatively, if you would like to speak to someone, contact Tim: tim_roberts65@hotmail.com or Mark: dimark@live.co.uk

Singing in a choir isn't just a delightful way to spend time with others who share a love for music; it also offers substantial heart health benefits.
Firstly, engaging in regular singing exercises can significantly improve cardiovascular health. Singing requires deep, controlled breathing, which enhances lung capacity and increases oxygen intake. This, in turn, can lower blood pressure and promote a healthier heart rhythm. Additionally, the physical act of singing acts as a mild aerobic exercise that enhances circulation and strengthens the heart muscle.
Secondly, choir singing has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, contributing to better heart health. Singing releases endorphins, the body's natural feel-good chemicals, and decreases the level of cortisol, the stress hormone. By fostering a sense of relaxation and emotional well-being, singing can mitigate the harmful effects of chronic stress on the cardiovascular system. Moreover, the social bonding experienced in a choir setting can provide emotional support and a sense of belonging, which are crucial for maintaining mental and heart health.
Furthermore, singing in a choir can improve heart rate variability (HRV), an important indicator of cardiovascular health. Higher HRV is associated with a lower risk of heart disease and improved recovery from stress. Studies have found that choir members often synchronise their heartbeats to the rhythm of the music, leading to an increased HRV. This synchronisation and the meditative nature of singing can have a calming effect on the body, promoting overall heart health.
In summary, singing in a choir offers a multifaceted approach to heart health. It combines the physical benefits of aerobic exercise, the emotional advantages of reduced stress and anxiety, and the supportive environment of a social community. Whether you're a seasoned singer or a novice, joining a choir could be a harmonious step toward a healthier heart.
